July 7, 1975: Region XII (Central Mindanao) created from Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, North Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat with Cotabato City as the regional centre by Presidential Decree No. 742.
July 25, 1979: Region XII established as an autonomous region by Presidential Decree No. 1618 in accordance to the Tripoli Agreement of December 23, 1976.
August 1, 1989: Lanao del Sur excluding Marawi City and Maguindanao excluding Cotabato City removed from Region XII by Republic Act No. 6734. Ceased to be an autonomous region.
October 12, 1990: Lanao del Norte and Marawi City removed from Region XII, South Cotabato transferred into Region XII, and Koronadal, City of, designated as regional centre by Executive Order No. 429, but not executed.
February 23, 1995: Sultan Kudarat removed from Region XII by Republic Act No. 7901.
December 10, 1998: Sultan Kudarat transferred into Region XII by Republic Act No. 8744.
September 19, 2001: Lanao del Norte and Marawi City removed from Region XII, Sarangani and South Cotabato transferred into Region XII, and Region XII renamed Region XII (SOCCSKSARGEN) by Executive Order No. 36.
March 30, 2004: Koronadal, City of, designated as regional centre by Executive Order No. 304.
