September 24, 1972: Region XI (Southern Mindanao) created from Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, North Cotabato and South Cotabato with Davao City as the regional centre, by Presidential Decree No. 1 as part of the Integrated Reorganisation Plan.
July 7, 1975: Maguindanao, North Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat removed from Region XI and, Surigao del Sur transferred into Region XI by Presidential Decree No. 742.
October 12, 1990: South Cotabato removed from Region XI by Executive Order No. 429, but not executed.
February 23, 1995: Surigao del Sur removed from Region XI and Sultan Kudarat transferred into Region XI by Republic Act No. 7901.
December 10, 1998: Sultan Kudarat removed from Region XI by Republic Act No. 8744.
September 19, 2001: Sarangani and South Cotabato removed from Region XI and, Region XI renamed Region XI (Davao Region) by Executive Order No. 36.
